Education and Awareness

At TSF, we want to make sure that youth and community members have opportunities to learn information and skills to positively support their mental health and substance use challenges. That is why we provide various education and awareness opportunities for schools, service groups, youth groups, sport teams, work places, and more! We will even work with you to develop and presentation that suits your needs. Presentations are interactive, informative, and useful!

Mental Health 101

Mental Health 101 is an interactive, adaptable presentation focusing on helping young people develop a basic understanding of the mental health continuum, how our mental health affects us, and why it's relevant to them as young people. Developed with School Mental Health Ontario's curriculum and formatted as a text message conversation, the presentation works as a "choose your own adventure" style activity, allowing students to discuss and choose their own responses to questions as they are posed.

This presentation also explores:

  • Commonly identified mental health concerns among Canadian youth.

  • Factors involved in the development of poor mental health or mental illness.

  • Stigma: what it looks like and its effects.

  • History of mental health.

  • The importance of self care.

  • How to know if you need support and where it can be accessed.

  • How to be a better support to those in your life who may be struggling.

Addiction 101

Addiction 101 is an interactive presentation which allows young people to explore the concept of addiction at its most basic. Students will explore what addiction is, how it forms, the differences between substance use, abuse, and addiction, and the factors involved in their development. Using the "addiction tower" model, young people have the opportunity identify factors in their own lives, and visualize how these positive and negative factors can work to promote or negate the development of addiction.
